Rain plays havoc with Rocktoberfest

Results in disappointing outcome

This event was held at the Charlotte County Motor Sports Park in Punta Gorda, the weekend of October 19th. A portion of the proceeds was to benefit the Charlotte County YMCA’s After School Program. The Y's Men's Club was in charge of parking, tickets sales and beer sales.  Many members and volunteers showed up to man the various areas but the rain held crowds to only a couple hundred each day.

Saturday's main event featured Bad Company's former lead singer Brian Howe playing many well-known classic tunes.  Howe encouraged the sparse crowd to find its way to the front of the stage and the band played an encore in appreciation of those who stuck out the rain to hear them.

Sunday didn't go very well at all as the main event led by Artemis Pyle, from the legendary Lynnard Skynard band was a no show.

Kudos go to the promoters- the Southwest Parrot magazine- as they basically did all the right things but their efforts were nullified by the poor weather.  Many thanks to all the Y's Men and volunteers for their efforts.  What little money was raised will be donated to the YMCA After School Program.

5th Annual Bowling Tournament is
big success

The Y's Men's Club's 5th Annual Bowling Tournament was held on Saturday, May 12th, at Treasure Lanes on North Tamiami Trail in Port Charlotte.  While only eight teams participated, seven of them were 'major sponsors'  so the club made as much money from this event as any of the previous tournaments.

Thanks go out to all who participated and contributed especially to tournament director Terry Schoeck.
